How We Run
Hickory Rescue Squad currently has 1 full time employee that works
Monday through Friday from 8a-5p.
We also have roughly 5 part time employees that work 10 hour day or night shifts
everyday throughout
the week. We also have multiple volunteers that dedicate their time to
running calls when they are available.
Our members are all outfitted with all needed gear as well as walkie-talkies and
"minitor" pagers which
enables us to be able to answer calls 24 hours a day from wherever we are.
History
Hickory Rescue Squad was organized in 1955 as Catawba Valley Life Saving and Rescue Squadron, Inc.
Eight years later, it was renamed Hickory Rescue Squad, Inc. Hickory Rescue is a non-profit, mostly
volunteer agency. We have capacity for fifty members holding Emergency Medical Technician certifications
with the state of North Carolina, and are dedicated to providing services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We receive over 1500 calls a year to provide first responder and backup for Catawba County EMS, and
provide rescue services such as VMR extrication, water rescue, search and rescue, animal rescue,
and much more. We also provide multiple services for our community including stand-by services for
the local fire departments, demonstrations to youth, church, and school groups, and stand-by's for local
football games at area high schools and Lenoir Rhyne College. We have our RT certifications for
Heavy Rescue, Trench Rescue, Open Water Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue, High Angle Rescue, and are a
certified ambulance provider. Our current district encompasses more than one third of Catawba County
including Mt. View, Longview, Vale, Cooksville, assisting Hickory Fire inside the city
limits, and are available
to assist outside of our districts for mutual aid.
We operate out of two bases, Hickory and Propst. The members
of Hickory Rescue are proud to serve the citizens of Western Catawba County and appreciate your support.
